Unpacking the Influencer Myth: #1 - Detoxing

If you’ve ever felt like your body needs a “reset,” you’re not alone. The wellness industry has done an incredible job of convincing women that we’re somehow full of toxins - and that the solution is some revolutionary tea, powder, or expensive detox program.

But here’s the truth: your body already has a detox system. And it’s working for you every single day.

Your liver and kidneys are constantly filtering your blood, processing waste, breaking down toxins, and keeping your internal systems balanced. This isn’t something you need to switch on, it’s something your body is designed to do.

The idea that you need a product to “flush toxins” isn’t just misleading - it’s often a waste of money.

For women who are short on time and money, this matters. Because instead of spending hundreds of dollars on detox products, your energy is far better invested in simple, sustainable habits that actually support your body.

Start with hydration. Drinking enough water helps your kidneys do their job efficiently. You don’t need anything fancy, just consistency. Start your day with a large glass of water (add a pinch of sea salt for natural electrolytes to support effective hydration), keep a water bottle near you throughout the day to make it easy to keep your fluids up.

Next, focus on food. Fibre-rich foods like vegetables, fruit, legumes, and whole grains support digestion and elimination. Protein supports liver function, helping your body process and remove waste effectively.

Sleep is another underrated detox tool. While you rest, your body carries out essential repair processes - including those that support brain and cellular health.

And then there’s movement. Gentle, regular exercise supports circulation, digestion, and overall metabolic function.

None of these require a supplement. None of them require a “reset.”

The real issue with detox culture is that it encourages extremes - short-term restriction instead of long-term support. It creates a cycle of “falling off” and needing to “start over,” which is both exhausting and unnecessary, not to mention a potential drain on your hard earned money.

Your body doesn’t need punishment. It needs consistency.

If you’re feeling sluggish, low in energy, or out of balance, it’s not a sign that you need a detox product. It’s often a sign that your foundational habits need a little more support.

And that’s something you can build - slowly, realistically, and without spending a fortune.
